Swiss Jass is the most popular card game in Switzerland and is considered a national game. While there are many variants of the game, the rules described here apply to the Schieber one. The game is played by 4 players in teams of two. A deck of 36 cards is used. The cards in each suit are Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, and 6. The first dealer is chosen at random. The dealer deals 9 cards to each player in packs of 3, starting with the player to the right of them and continuing counter-clockwise.
